In the world of agarwood, the name "Qi-Nan" (or Kyara) represents the ultimate rarity.
It is not merely a fragrance, but a crystallization of time, nature, and craftsmanship. That’s why some people are puzzled when they learn that our company continues to invest in cultivating new Qi-Nan high-oil trees. Given that there are already existing stocks, why start from the source and wait year after year?
Our answer is simple: because you deserve better agarwood.
What are Qi-Nan High-Oil Trees?
Qi-Nan high-oil trees refer to those exceptional varieties with extremely high resin content and far greater potential for producing quality agarwood than ordinary trees. While conventional agarwood trees may take decades or even centuries to form valuable resin, Qi-Nan high-oil trees – through scientific cultivation and meticulous management – can yield resin-rich, deeply fragrant agarwood in a relatively shorter time.
But “relatively shorter” still means years of patient care. From planting to the initial stage of resin production, a Qi-Nan high-oil tree requires at least three to five years of dedicated nurturing. Every bit of accumulated resin is a poem that time writes into the grain of the wood.
Why persist?
There is a voice in the market that says: as long as agarwood “has some scent,” that’s enough. Why pursue high-oil or even Qi-Nan grade?
We beg to differ.
The true beauty of agarwood lies in its layers, its penetrating power, and the calming depth it brings. Ordinary agarwood may offer a hint of fragrance, but Qi-Nan-grade agarwood, the moment it is heated, opens the boundaries of the senses – a coolness down the throat, honeyed sweetness lingering, and a long, elegant aftertaste like an unfinished ancient melody.
We cultivate Qi-Nan high-oil trees not just for “stronger” aroma, but for “deeper” aroma. Deeper, fuller experience, and quality that stands the test of time.
Science-driven, honoring nature’s gift
Traditional agarwood harvesting often relied on chance discoveries from wild resources – inefficient and ecologically damaging. We have chosen a harder path: selecting superior mother trees, optimizing growing conditions, and simulating natural resin induction to make high-quality agarwood production sustainable.
This is not a departure from nature, but a tribute to it. When we use science to understand what a tree truly needs, the tree rewards us with its richest resin.
At our planting base in Hainan, every Qi-Nan high-oil tree has its own growth record – soil moisture, sunlight hours, nutrient supply – all precisely tracked and adjusted. We believe that only an obsession with detail can yield absolute purity of fragrance.
Higher quality, for those who truly appreciate agarwood
As I write this blog, we have just completed a new round of grafting and planting for our Qi-Nan high-oil trees. Looking at those young saplings, we know that another years-long wait has begun.
But this waiting is a happy one. Because we know that one day, when you light a piece of Qi-Nan from our plantation in your study, tea room, or living room, and that cool, sweet, ethereal fragrance slowly rises – you will feel that every bit of persistence was worth it.
We dare not claim to be the “definers” of agarwood. But we are willing to be the most persistent “pursuers.” Pursuing higher resin content, purer aroma, and a standard that truly lives up to the name “Qi-Nan.”
Beyond rarity, rooted in devotion.
This is the "original aspiration" behind our cultivation of Qi-Nan high-oil trees, and our promise to every lover of fine agarwood.
The next time you experience a layer‑upon‑layer, long‑lasting agarwood fragrance, know that there might be a story of patience, science, and passion behind it. And we are honored to be the storytellers.
